Blind sheep
Plattling, Germany, DE
This about seven centimeters long, silvery shining snail sculpture was made by our friend K.Makiri. At his former workplace in Lahnau, Hesse, he had the task of soldering electronic components. The solder drop remaining on the plunger after each soldering process was wiped off with a sponge and later disposed of in the residual waste. Over time, this resulted in a considerable amount of solder. Instead of disposing of the surplus drops, our friend began to make small sculptures from them piece by piece, and their production could take several months. He created the snail sculpture as a gift for us, since we devote ourselves professionally to the study of mollusks. It consists of a waste product of industrial production and at the same time of a valuable raw material, which is often extracted under environmentally destructive conditions.
